Kia ora, I am Rebekah, a watercolour artist from Aotearoa New Zealand. I live in a small town in the Waikato where I paint portraits and create art.
I see my art as a celebration of the little quirks and interesting stuff that makes us uniquely kiwi. No matter where in the world we happen to be, there are always those small everyday things that remind us of home. I started out as an artist by painting portraits and get so much enjoyment from them. The fun of recreating people with all their individual qualities and character is what drew me to portraiture and I like to paint my portraits as if they are illustrations in someone’s story.
I feel very lucky being an artist in Aotearoa – there is so much in our culture and environment that inspires creativity and I hope to reflect that in my art.
