Description

Arisarum proboscideum – Mouse Plant

These are bulbs, so best ordered when they are decidious.   But they will bounce back if dug up in their growing season.

For all those that love growing Arisarum or arum plants, have you this little cutie in your collection?  These cute woodland plants will fascinate children and add a splash of uniqueness to your garden.

Arisarum proboscideum is a small, tuberous-rooted, woodland, perennial in the Arum family.

Mouse tail plants have extremely unusual, chocolate-coloured flowers that are cylindrical and sit below the leaves with only little “tails” visible. When flowers bunch together, they give the appearance of a family of mice, hence the name. Leaves are arrow-shaped and a glossy, green colour.

Propagation is by insects which are lured into the spathe through a tiny opening at the end of the tail. Once inside, the trapped insects transfer pollen from male to female flowers as they fight to escape. A different kind of mouse trap!Like lots in this family it is best as a potted specimen, so it stays where you want it.

Best purchased when the plant is dormant, in winter.

All plants are posted bare rooted, wrapped in tissue, then further packed into boxes or containers for the trip to your place.  I prefer to post out Mondays or Tuesdays to prevent plants sitting in transit over the weekend.
