Description

Diatomaceous earth is a powder made from the sediment of fossilised water algae.   These are high in a compound called silica; thus, the dried sediment is also very high in silica.

Look it up as it has so many uses for your pets and yourself. Purifies water, used a filter and to clean up spills.  See below for more examples.

Many plant lovers use it as an insecticide, fungicide or to apply to plant wounds to cleanse and dry the cut prior to planting.

Great for those cacti that get rotting areas.  After you cut away all the rot I like to ‘puff’ some D Earth into the cavity, let it dry for a week or so.  Before potting it up.

Caution though, take suitable precautions as inhaling the dust particles is bad for your lungs.

Supplied in a handy zip-lock bag containing 120g

1/ Pesticide – dust plants

2/ Natural fungicide.  Apply to cuts and wounds.

3/ Insecticide – Aphids etc – dust or mix with water and spray plants

4/ Slugs/snails – circle around your plants

5/ Porosity (ability to hold fertilizers then release it to the roots) Mix with potting soil to increase drainage and air circulation.

6/ Ants, gnats and larva, wasps & flies, fleas

7/ It is highly absorbent, use it instead of cotton wool, when adding deterrent oils etc.

8/ Deodorize pet areas

9/ Maggots in compost

10/ Use to preserve and dry cut flowers.  Instead of silica sand.
