Tree Dahlia

$15.00

As it turns to autumn and all the garden dahlias are starting to look scruffy, look upwards and the Tree Dahlia is just starting to flower.  These tower above everything and look great from a distance.

Description

Tree dahlia  Dahlia imperialis

This plant will only be harvested and dispatched after it has finished flowering for the year.  They flower really late, about June.     So if you read this and there are no stocking figures, they are out of season.

Tree Dahlias grow tall and are great to grow at the back of your garden.  They don’t really need much ground space as they rise above most other plants and flower way up high on their stalks.  Your first experience of seeing Tree Dahlias might be this spectacular display 3 meters in the air, hidden behind other things.

Winter and frosts do affect these beauties, but by the time this happens they have come to the end of their season anyway.  The stalks will die off, you can cut them down, then wait for fresh, new growth to emerge next time.  If you have somewhere, in the back of your garden, where other plants or a fence can help hold the tall growth, sheltered from wind and frost, then all the better.

The roots are giant, carrot like roots, so not easy to dig up to move about.  Sections of stem are a much easier way to propagate them. Once you have your own plants, you can easily chop your old trunks up and replant.

There are a few other colours of tree dahlias for you to collect.  This variety that I offer, is the most common pink/mauve coloured one.

Happy to combine orders.  Just contact me. If you are looking for anything specifically, please ask, I may have it.
